Ashara Stansfield, A Talented Musician and Networker
Creating Community Through Music and Dance
Ashara has been involved in music as long as she can remember. Her first love was singing and she formally studied music at the Hartt School of Music, a performing arts school in Hartford, CT., and Ithaca College in New York. Throughout the 70's, she performed solo, playing guitar and singing at various coffee houses and bars in upstate New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
Besides music, Ashara's other passion is networking and she specializes in bringing people together to create a sense of community and open their hearts. She began creating communities long before the Internet and social networking became popular with a metaphysical, spiritual newsletter called The Light Network that she wrote and distributed as a free service from 1994-2000. Ashara believes that creating a sense of community through music and dance fosters openness, creativity and communication in a nurturing joyful, and fun environment.
In 1994, Ashara's love of music and community networking drew her to Sacred Circle Dance. A few years later in 1997, she began to play music with other like-minded musicians, forming The Village Circle Band where she continues to play and sing music from all over the world specifically for Circle Dance. When she isn't in the band, she can occasionally be found teaching dance in many different circles.
In addition to circle dancing, Ashara is also involved in leading Kirtan, an active singing form of meditation that involves call and response chanting.
